Some time ago I received promotional material of this valuable American quintet from Perry Hall, Maryland. Vermörd were formed in 2013 and their first release came in 2015 in the form of Dawn of the Black Harvest a solid six track EP.
Very rarely an EP manages to represent the potential of a band, but Vermörd have definitely succeeded here. They are a ridiculously talented group of teenagers playing fast and loose Black Metal that often veers into Technical Death Metal passages. Filled with awesome, stirring guitar runs, impressive churning bass lines, plenty of frenzied blasting and deathly bellows. Dawn of the Black Harvest is jam-packed with well-executed, ornate, Black Death Metal, tastefully put together and performed with intensity. The band delivers a blackened death metal, their influences coming especially from bands like Behemoth and Belphegor. The band has considerable technical skills, see for example the riff in sweep picking in “Plagued Eyes from the Scrolls of Xafmirtas”. The production is underground and unfortunately the sound quality is not the best.
Dawn of the Black Harvest is still a good and interesting debut EP, although not very original speaking in terms of genre, the future of this band be bright!
