In this article I want to tell you about a Polish band with an unpronounceable name, at least for those who, like me, are ignorant in the Polish language: Wędrujący Wiatr. It is an atmospheric black metal duo formed in 2011 whose debut full-legth came out in 2013.

Tam, gdzie miesiąc opłakuje świt, this is the title, consists of five songs, one of which is an intro and three last more than ten minutes. It is a melodious album, but not mushy, and it is one of the most interesting releases of recent times. I think that influences from the American genre known as Cascadian black metal, above all Wolves in the Throne Room, are evident; but nevertheless Wędrujący Wiatr have managed to create a very personal style, yet simple at the same time, and this is a great credit to the Polish guys. Their music conveys a variety of feelings such as loneliness, melancholy, but it is also a music with a meditative, dreamy, and I would say even surreal atmosphere; this feature is typical also of Cascadian black metal. The production is intentionally a little raw; perhaps Wędrujący Wiatr did not want to deliver a professional sound experience and prefer to emphasize their underground belonging; I must also say that their sound is perfect, however, for their music. The guitars are certainly not very powerful, but this on the other side contributes to the atmosphere of the whole, which is also enhanced by the clever use of keyboards, arpeggios, and acoustic guitars.

Tam, gdzie miesiąc opłakuje świt has great a great deal of pathos; I think the culminating point is the final section of “A nurów Krzyk wiatr na skrzydłach nocy niesie ...”, a song that begins with the noise of the owl and makes one think of a forest at night with a full moon (like the one on the cover). Just close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the notes!

The use of the Polish language is due to the fact that the lyrics are about Polish folklore and nature. Tam, gdzie miesiąc opłakuje świt is a wonderful album and I think, or at least I hope, we will hear more about Wędrujący Wiatr.

Notes:
The name of the band Wędrujący Wiatr means ‘Wandering Wind’. Tam, gdzie miesiąc opłakuje świt was released in June 2013 on Werewolf Promotion.
