Skiddaw: “Skiddaw”

Skiddaw, black metal duo from UK, make their debut with this four song self-titled EP. What I like the most in this band is the evil group photo, worthy of Pure Holocaust by Immortal, something which must not be underestimated and must be appreciated instead, since the iconographic side of black metal, which  we blacksters love so much, seems to have gone lost in the last few years. I am unfortunately afraid that, however, that’s it, not least because of the insignificant consistency of this EP that lasts less than 14 minutes. But that's not the point; first of all the genre sounds more death metal, or at most blackened death metal. Other objective issues are the poor level of the  production and the sound that do not makes this product particularly attractive. The first song “Skiddaw Forest” is an intro that, to put it euphemistically, (or kindly if you want), is not very inspired. The second song “Skiddaw Towers”, the longest on the EP with its 4:14 minutes, is a low paced song low tuned song that can capture the attention of the listener; the best on the EP. The other two songs have some blast beasts but they are totally devoid of strength and grip, the arrangements are modest and superficial, but this is apparently a general problem of the songwriting of the band. The EP as a whole is not at all convincing. Ad maiora!
