This album is about an hour of pleasant and well done melodic black metal and the band responsible for this is Sekoria, from Wenden, Germany, an excellent quartet active since 2010. The band has so far released a demo and two full-lengths: Iter Stellarum in 2012 and Im Reich der Schatten in 2015.
As already mentioned, the German band delivers epic, melodic black metal. Their music is full of refined evolutions and elegant arrangements, which also says a lot about the technical skills of the musicians. A perfect example is the title track that manages to blend harsh riffs with melodious moments. I can mention a few further examples like “Ein neuer Weg”, which consists of clean chords that continue perfectly and beautifully in the beginning of “Wesen der Zeit”.
All in all, the level of this album is very high, although the Germans guys need that little extra something to keep the listener stuck in front of the stereo set. I would say that Swedish melodic black metal is a source of inspiration for this band, and I see some similarities even with Dark Tranquillity (I may be wrong about this, it is just a personal feeling); the fans of this kind of sound will surely love Sekoria, and I highly recommend you to give a listen to Im Reich der Schatten.
