Impressive debut EP by Scour, the new super black metal band of Phil Anselmo. The band was founded in 2015 by members of Cattle Decapitation and Pig Destroyer, and of course Phil Anselmo. I knew that Phil Anselmo lstens to a lot of black metal, but still I was astonished beyond all expectations. The self-titled EP was released on July 15 and contains six songs, which is quite a lot for an EP.
The riffing is powerful, full of fury and rage and for sure it pays tribute to Scandinavian black metal, above all Dark Funeral in my opinion, although I also hear a big deal of influence from hard-core in it.
We do not even need to talk about production and technical performance: both are just perfect starting from Phil himself who varies a wide range of vocal styles.
To conclude, this is an absolutely cutting-edge EP and of course a must listen!
