With the second album Vengeance, SFADR abandons the crying scream and the melancholy melodies and moves over toward a more introspective post black metal. I think the main influences in this style change come from American Leviathan. The influence of Leviathan is a kind of disruptive and unconventional element in the composition of the riffs. SFADR, however, has also incorporated influences from doom and shoegaze; in some instances, the slow tempos become obsessive and hypnotic, such as in “Hand in Hand” and “Ay sad vida corporal”. The soundscape of the band is finally enriched by post-rock or anyway non metal elements, as in “Spanish Moss” and “Apostasis”. As regards the production, it is not excellent, but it is definitely decent; of course, a band like SFADR is not after a crystal clear production, which I understand.
In conclusion, I would say that Vengeance is for sure a very good and interesting album that will appeal to those who like an atypical sound.
