Pénitence Onirique were already featured here four years ago on the occasion of their first album, V.I.T.R.I.O.L, and with great pleasure I introduce you to the follow-up to that masterpiece, Vestige. Meanwhile, the French duo has recruited new members thus becoming a sextet, although apparently not all of them participated in the recording of Vestige; also, it seems, though, that the band is currently a quintet. However, the band's sound palette has certainly expanded even though their hallmark is still recognizable. While V.I.T.R.I.O.L was full of mysticism, suffering, and despair, Vestige is more reflective, with more complex and studied melodic and harmonic textures, but the intensity is essentially the same. On a thematic level, as the title suggests, Vestige deals with themes linked to the memory of what disappears. In conclusion, this is a post-black metal masterpiece. Unmissable.
