This is the first time I write about a band like Orationem, a one-man band from Pawnee, Illinois. Launched by Thomas Eversole in 2015, this project has been very prolific, having released as many as six full length albums. As can be imagined, the level of musical elaboration and refinement has not been very accurate: the latest album When We Are Wounded delivers a raw and evil sound. Evil ... Wait a moment, I'm reading the lyrics ... this is the first verse of the first song “Antithesis”:
“To the Christian death
and Christian black metal scenes,
I am pleased
there are those who follow Christ
who enjoy harsh and brutal metal”
This stuff sounds evil, but it's not, it's Christian black metal. As indicated by the moniker Orationem, Thomas wants to sermonize. In “Lack of Compassion” he explicitly says “Jesus Christ, I pray to You”.
Well if you are looking for a god to believe in, or if you need to reconcile your Christian faith with your black metal passion without running the risk of hearing anti-religious texts or about occultism or demons, well this group is highly recommended.
