This is a very competent and finely produced album, with layers of rawness and melodies that stay in your ear. Melodic black metal, symphonic black metal, you name it, what you will find is melody bursting from all the songs and pretty strong riffage. One more point in their favor is the consistency of all the album, musically and lyrically. The misanthropy and the nautical themes definitely take you out of daily mundane life and invite a little escape to a supernatural world, where death and dead sailors reign and guide.
It’s hard to pick a specific favorite song because the album doesn’t have ups and downs. “Oceanus Procellarum” can highlight the mid-paced tempo and at the same time it sums all the album’s qualities. I really like the vocals shifting from clean to harsh on this one, as much as the impressive guitar work. I think Necronautical is a great addition to Cacophonous family and a new band to watch.
