In case there is still a need to prove it, Misþyrming's sophomore album shows that Iceland is now one of the major black metal exporting countries. Suffice it to say that in the same year 2019, three masterpieces have been churned out by bands like Svartidauði, Sinmara, and Misþyrming, all coming from the remote North European island. Misþyrming's sophomore album Algleymi is different from the massive, powerful, and sometimes dissonant sound of the other two great Icelandic bands: Misþyrming, while remaining extremely harsh and abrasive, have a unique ability to be dreamy and evocative at the same time. In a nutshell, the essence of Algleymi's tone is in this combination of powerful sound and dreamy atmospheres, and, remarkably, all this is grafted onto a black'n roll basis. The song that best exemplifies this varied sound palette is the wonderful second track "Með svipur á lofti", perhaps the most beautiful on the album, while "Og er haustið líður undir lok" shows at best the black’n roll influence especially in the initial riff.
The whole album is a masterpiece highly recommended to everyone: excellent and refreshing listening guaranteed!
