Swedish Mephorash have made a name for themselves in recent years within the occult circle especially for their visually beautiful shows conceived as true esoteric rituals. But what about the music itself without the visual aspect of the show? Recently the band released the new album Shem ha Mephorash anticipated of the video clip “Sanguinem”. In the new album the band continues the core of their typical sound that I have praised in the past. The innovations concern above all an accentuation of the solemn aspect and a greater use of melodies, as in the aforementioned “Sanguinem”. The purpose of the band is certainly to create a hypnotic atmosphere, as in an esoteric ritual in which the listener is transported to another spiritual dimension. However, I must say that in practice the album is too slow. I'm not talking about the metronome tempo, but I mean that things take too long to happen. Long transitions, preludes, interludes or postludes in each song make the album flow less smoothly and too slowly: 75 minutes for eight songs are definitely an endless playtime, and already around song four you might be looking forward to the album’s end. The choice of Mephorash is however courageous and respectable.
