Formed in 2012 in Belgium, one-man band Menschheitsdämmerung released an EP in 2013 and the first full-length Schadenfreude arrived in 2015. Mastermind Frederik has put a lot of effort into it, by channeling all the darkest sides and feelings of his soul, so creating sick and morbid atmosphere. The thick sound is well shaped in order to make the most of the different styles adopted in the riffing.
The first song is in the wake of the pure Scandinavian black metal, but then already in the second song you realize that the soundscape of Menschheitsdämmerung also includes elements from doom, death metal and groove. The performance is on a good technical level, and even the production is very good.
If I have to find a drawback, it is that despite all its qualities, this album is a bit flat and lacks verve and energy. Schadenfreude is still a good album that deserves a listen.
