A couple of weeks ago the new Mayhem album was released after two songs had already been unveiled. Daemon is very different from the predecessor Esoteric Warfare, and I would add that it is not a typical Mayhem album at all. His predecessors were much more avant-garde albums while Daemon seems to take a step backward and falls within more traditional canons. For example, while in Esoteric Warfare the drum lines made also use of syncopation, in Daemon tempos are much more linear. The riffing is also much centred on tremolo picking; at times it is very reminiscent of melodic black metal. Even Attila's performance seems less virtuous than usual, nontheless Daemon is still a great album. And when you have Hellhammer, whatever turns out to sound wonderful.
