Maruoka is a band with three members from United States, Boston, Massachusetts. They play a downtuned heavy psychedelic sound, with a black metal approach, the latter with a stronger emphasis on vocal work. They deliver nice guitar solos embraced with high levels of fuzz. Personally, I enjoyed “Dream of Memory” a lot, especially for those solos fused with a sludge expressiveness. The first song “Mourning Rituals” starts with a nice catchy riff, transposed to the lower tonality and to a growing sinister ambiance. The pacing exhales something like an aggressive flux, with rhythmic changes that lead us to the apparent simplicity of tone. Somewhat wrapped in mystery, Maruoka can provide on this EP a nice listening experience.
