Many of you will know about Batushka’s split after the two members Varfolomej and Hristofor or Krysztof, went separate ways and both continued the Batushka project separately. The consequence is that today we have two bands called Batushka and both have released an album this year. Here we will talk about Krysztof’s Batushka and his album Панихида or Panihida transliterated, which is a sort of Requiem in the Orthodox rite. Panihida has been widely acclaimed and praised by critics but above all by fans who consider Krysztof's version as the true Batushka. However Panihida seems to me to have a more similar sound to the first Batushka album Liturgiya: it continues its harshness and abrasiveness but also the typical down-tuned guitar, which is natural since Krysztof was the guitarist and bassist in the first Batushka. One thing is certain: Panihida is a fantastic album, and it is certainly one of the best black metal albums of 2019. So if you haven't yet done so, please listen to Panihida right away.
