Florida's Journey into Darkness is an interesting solo project of Brett Clarin, former guitarist of the American death metal band Sorrow from 1991 to 1993. Inspired by intros and interludes on metal albums, Brett launched his all synths solo-project Journey into Darkness after leaving Sorrow, and the first, fully instrumental album Life is a Near Death Experience was released in 1996. After hibernating the project for over twenty years, Brett resurrected it from the ashes in 2018 adding guitars and vocals. The result is Multitudes of Emptiness, an album in which all instruments are seemingly virtual. Musically speaking, Multitudes of Emptiness resembles symphonic black/death metal, in the vein of early Dimmu Borgir, but blended with dark wave or industrial influences; the imprint of extreme metal is however recognizable in the melodies, riffs, and general mood. It is an interesting experiment, even though not new when you think of bands like Thorns, but in my opinion the sophomore album by Journey into Darkness is much more interesting and dynamic than the previous all synths album. So listen to it!
