In Athens, a relatively young band is returning to the origins of Greek black metal and is reviving the old sound of Rotting Christ and Varathron. This band is Ithaqua, formed in Athens in 2014; the band is a duo of experienced musicians, of which Echetleos is active in more renowned Kawir and is an ex member of Archemoron. So far the band has released a demo in 2015, Initiation to Obscure Mysteries, and an EP, The Black Mass Sabbath Pulse in 2016. The EP is actually very reminiscent of The Mighty Contract the fundamental album by Rotting Christ, in my opinion, but with a rawer sound. Therefore, don’t miss this EP if you are addicted to this sound.
