It's a real pleasure to hear again from Istina, a DSBM band from Krasnoyarsk in Siberia, Russia, of which four years ago I reviewed the debut album Poznaniye t'moy. Now Istina are back with the sophomore album Otkrovenie neizvestnosti (transliteration of Откровение неизвестности which translates for ‘Revelation of Unknown’) after four years in which perhaps the band has redefined their sound. In fact, four years ago I was not impressed by the band because, despite some good ideas, I found that the album was a bit repetitive and monotonous. I am very happy to say that the new album is completely different: deeply-felt, painful and more solid; above all this album is much more studied and this is reflected an intense atmospheric element that permeates the whole album. Istina have included several elements in their soundscape such as polyphonies, synths, blast beats, mid tempos, but above all a lot of dissonances that increase the sense of estrangement and pain. This wide soundscape makes the album varied and enjoyable. I will never be a lover of drum machines but they are almost the rule in the DSBM branch, so now I do not mind. To conclude, Otkrovenie neizvestnosti has an intense and sincere feeling that will engross many listeners. Recommended.
