Infer is a Slovak quartet launched in 2002 by guitarist/vocalist Peter and drummer Robo after a long militancy in Slovak underground death metal bands. In my opinion, this experience of the past has undoubtedly left a mark on the band's current style as Infer, born as a raw black metal band, then drifted, at least partly, towards a death metal sound. Their latest album Aeon of Deathless Blight indeed blends the best of the two styles: the power and aggressiveness of death metal and the gloom of black metal. Infer’s hallmark is a dense and thick sound with riffs that seem to flow from the very death metal old school, but there is also a robust chthonic atmosphere. All the songs are well arranged and performed, and when you think about this, you understand why it took Infer ten years to churn out this album after the predecessor Sede Vacante Aeternum. But above all, the songs exude despair, hatred, pain; one of the central themes of the album is, in fact, the futility of human existence. Nonetheless, I must say that Aeon of Deathless Blight is not impressive in originality, but its quality is an atmosphere of eeriness that will captivate you. So in conclusion, I would give it a listen if I were you!
