From the fertile soil of Greece hail Hor, black metal duo at their absolute debut in the international scene with the album Exitium. The four-track album pays a clear tribute to the glorious Greek tradition with its powerful, harsh riffs with a lot of grove, as in the first track “Birth of Tragedy”, but then ranges in Scandinavian reminiscences with melodic tremolo riffs, as in the fourth track “Exitium” that has some Gorgoroth vibes, or the evocative mid-paced “The Misanthrope”. However, the most important thing, left aside all the influences that Hor may have, your feeling while listening to it will be of a grim, cold, primordial old school black metal to which the haunted and eerie vocals add a relentless, desperate atmosphere. The production is crucial in this regard: it sounds as if it was recorded in the abyss of a cave, like it used to be once upon a time, without embellishments and triggers on the drums, while the mixing gives the right space to all the instruments. All in all, an excellent debut for the Greek duo; this album is particularly recommended for those who love the good old sound.
