The first three songs of the split are by Heilnoz, a Spanish trio existing since 2007 with a demo, an EP and two splits out, including this one. Heilnoz deliver atmospheric black metal, but it is, so to say, homemade: nothing memorable, low profile production and a hoarse growl that jars with the melodic and evocative context.
German Drengskapur, responsible for the remaining four songs, have a substantial curriculum and this is heard in their music: this band was formed in Berlin in 2002 and can boast three full-lengths to their credit. The Germans deliver a more straightforward and aggressive type of black metal, probably inspired by the Norwegian tradition. Their contribution raises the level of this split and make it more attractive through better attention to detail but only that: their songwriting sounds more accurate and their songs more effective.
For sure, The Forest's Arckanum offers all in all a good and pleasant listening experience.
