Erik Gärdefors and his Grift never cease to enchant and enthrall the listener with ever-changing and intense albums. The new album Budet (meaning ‘the message’ or ‘the messenger’) explores some aspects of the human nature such as the role of memories, feelings, the passing of time, the desperate search for happiness, and the mending of the inevitable fracture between reality on the one side, and aspirations and sentiments on the other. Erik does this in his intense, dramatic, and poetic style: his lyrics are de facto real poems. As always, many traditional instruments are used, blending folk music and black metal in his unmistakable style; these instruments are mostly played by guest musicians, as for example the violin played by Georg Bönner of German black metal one-man band ColdWorld. In short, Erik Gärdefors has once again proven to be a unique artist in the black metal landscape, a unique and profound artist beyond the mere musical sphere. Unique.
