Fjorsvartnir (Denmark): “Mzoraxc' forbandelse”

High quality sophomore album for Fjorsvartnir from Copenhagen, Denmark, whose sole member and mastermind is Fjorgynn. This band exists since 2007 and the first album Legions of the North arrived in 2012; the follow-up of this album is Mzoraxc' forbandelse. The latter continues roughly on the same path as the former, except that Fjorgynn has abandoned some of the epic character that permeated Legions of the North in favour of a more atmospheric approach. The album delivers in fact atmospheric melodic black metal, though often Fjorgynn uses a low-pitched growl that is more usual for death metal. Even the sound itself on Mzoraxc' forbandelse is almost similar to the first album, while a radical novelty is the use of female vocals on “Krigssat” and “Valkyrie”. The technical performance of Fjorgynn is impeccable and the album as a whole is very solid, even if it lacks that little something that would transform it from a good album to a masterpiece album, but this may just be my taste. Some songs are undoubtedly excellent, such as “Ravneskrig og ulvehyl” and “Det sidste slag”, which I find very engaging, with well-crafted riffing and accurate arrangements.

The lyrics are this time all in Danish and tap into Norse mythology and Viking themes.
