Sweden is an inexhaustible deposit of excellent bands, as I have said elsewhere, and I have another piece of evidence of it: Fifth to Infinity, from Stockholm, are a band with a long history at their back. Being formed back in 1997, and having been on-hold from 2001 to 2007, the band managed to release its first, and so far only, work, nearly twenty years after formation. In this case we should definitely say that it was worth waiting because Omnipotent Transdimensional Soulfire is an immeasurable masterpiece of melodic black metal. Mostly, the album is slow-paced but obsessive, morbid, funereal, and in this respect Fifth to Infinity are reminiscent of the fellow citizens Grá. The album is also beautifully performed, and it could not be otherwise, since the lineup is very prestigious: suffice it to say that the drummer is Martin Lopez, ex Opeth and Amon Amarth. There are no other words to describe Omnipotent Transdimensional Soulfire except that it is atmospefere to the nth power. Masterpiece.
