Although a milestone of Norwegian black metal, Endezzma has perhaps been overshadowed by other mainstream bands from the scene like Mayhem, Emperor, Taake, et al., but the story can change now. A few days ago, Endezzma released their third album The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder, which could finally consecrate them as one of the most important bands on the international scene. The Archer, Fjord and the Thunder is classic and modern at the same time, and the sound is refined and polished but also raw, the songwriting is enormously enriched with polyphonies, acoustic passages, aggressive and slow moments, and everything is structured and also played perfectly. Above all, this album is rooted in the Norwegian tradition, and the guitars have that typical, instantly recognizable Norwegian sound that is so beautiful and gorgeous. Difficult to choose the best tracks because they are all magnificent; I particularly like “Formless and Void”, and such an epic riff as the first of “The Name of the Night Is a Strong Tower” I hadn't heard for a long time. The moral of the story is that 2021 has started off in the best possible way with a masterpiece album!
