Djevel (Norway): “Tanker som rir natten”

​Gee what an album! This is what you will exclaim when you listen to Tanker som rir natten, the new album by Norwegian Djevel. If you are thinking about the aggressive and savage black metal sound of the previous albums, perhaps with some folk touches, you are definitely on the wrong track. It is clear that the Norwegian band wants to explore new territories, not only in terms of sound but also mentally. This album is above all an inner and introspective journey, and how could it be otherwise if the title translates for ‘Thoughts That Ride the Night’. It is a surprising album, full of atmosphere, and above all sincere; it is evident from the very first moment that this album was deeply thought out and profoundly studied. It would be an understatement to say that Djevel's Tanker som rir natten is one of the top releases of 2021, because it is actually the best black metal album released so far this year.
