Antithedron, though only an EP, proves to be a fundamental release for the band's evolution, as the sound differs greatly from the one delivered on the album. In fact, the band abandons all the fast tempos and blast-beats and explores instead the potential of slow tempos. The result is a slow-paced black metal, I would say almost black doom with very low-pitched guitars; in this way, the Finns create a sound wall that is more pounding and even obscure than Through Lung and Heart. No need to say that the general atmosphere is thick, dense, funereal and distressing; for this reason I would say that perhaps this style suits better the occult and satanic themes addressed by the band.
Probably Antithedron is one of the darkest things released in recent times and certainly an excellent EP; highly recommended!
Notes:
Antithedron was digitally released on March 24 2017 on Dark Descent Records.
