Melancholie combined at the same time chill and intensity in a landscape of disparate desolation; for this reason I had high expectations for the new album, but my expectations were not matched. It is not that Autumn is a bad album, it is on the contrary very beautiful, but it lacks the dramatic tension and of the previous album; first of all, the production does not have that raw feeling, but it is on the contrary much cleaner. You will not find the same immediacy either, since mastermind Georg Börner has expanded his soundscape with clean vocals, different kinds of instruments and female vocals. Here and there, the characteristic old mood of Melancholie emerges, you will recognize it in a few passages in “Womb of Emptiness” and “Autumn Shades”, but it is sublimated into a more contemplative perspective.
Since eight years has passed since the previous album, one has to consider that Georg has changed a bit, and this is reflected in his music of today. One can say that with Autumn, ColdWorld has undertaken a more ambient and atmospheric path. It is important to emphasize that Autumn, the third ColdWorld album, is an excellent album, and this must not be misunderstood. If you are fond of DSBM you will not want to miss it!
