Calth (Bulgaria): “Unrevelation”

From Sandanski, Bulgaria, Calth is the eponymous mastermind of this solo project started in 2005. Calth has released a series of singles and demos and three full-lenghts, the latest of which is Unrevelation, released in 2015. I did not know the band previously; Unrevelation has however a pretty clear and simple concept: harsh, rough and abrasive black metal delivered with good efficacy and inspired by the glory of the past, in particular bands like Bathory and Impaled Nazarene. Sometimes, melodic parts vaguely à la Gorgoroth emerge here and there.

The production is deliberately raw in order to increase the abrasive effect: the artwork itself is very essential with a cover in black and white depicting demonic and evil creatures. Those who are eager to listen to harsh raw black metal will love this album that, on the other hand, lacks originality and personality, and in the long run is a little flat.

Notes:
Unrevelation was released in July 1 2015 on Black Metal Cult records on CD limited to 500 copies. According to the information sent by Acclaim Records the album contains 8 brand-new tracks + 5 bonus tracks from 2007. The digital album is purchasable for 2 EUR through the Bandcamp player below.
