Blackdeath is the name of a black metal band from St. Petersburg, Russia, which has been around since 1998 with a considerable amount of releases of different kind under their belt including not less than eight full-length albums. Totentanz, the latest release of the band collecting material composed during and right after the 2004 Satan macht frei album, which is not original material since it had already been released before: part one (tracks 1-3- 5-6-7) was released on the split with Mortifera in 2004, while part two (tracks 2-4-8-9) was released on the split with no less than Leviathan in 2005. According to the information at my disposal, these are the last Blackdeath songs to feature a drum computer.
Well, what to say about this compilation? Blackdeath deliver raw old-school black metal full of primitive aggression sounding much like Darkthrone, in my opinion. Anyway, I find that Totentanz is not at all interesting or original, having said that I had never heard this band before. I would recommend Totentanz only to diehard fans of raw, primitive black metal.
