From Italy, Ashes of Nowhere were formed in 2013 and their full-length Emptiness is their first work ever. It is a complex work that explores the territories of prog or post black metal on an old school base, where you can recognize the listens of the Italian band, from the melodic element of early Dimmu Borgir to the cold and icy atmosphere of Taake. The result is astounding; I would describe it as an atmospheric black metal that is at the same time technical but raw, furious but melancholy. Worthy of praise is the performance of the musicians who are all very skilled; I also appreciate very much the bright and clean production, which is synonym to professionalism, to me. Perhaps a weak side is in the vocal section, where the shrill scream of the vocalist lacks depth, in my opinion. Apart from that, Emptiness is an excellent album that I highly recommend.
