If there is a band that never disappoints expectations is 1349. While other great bands age and decline, 1349 are like wine: the passing of time makes them improve. The new album The Infernal Pathway surpassed all my wildest hopes. Released some quietly without too much publicity, The Infernal Pathway attains a cutting-edge level: after 22 years of activity and 7 albums, apparently the creative vein hasn't subsided yet. It is easy to say that Frost, with his incredible work on drums, makes everything more impressive, but there is also the work of the whole band behind such an extraordinary album. The riffing is continually disruptive and has a charge of grit and energy that has been lost in the most recent generation, lost in tunics, hoods, and outfits of varying fashion and colour to be shown during shows. Instead 1349 still provide powerful and devastating black metal in the old way. Masterpiece, to me The Infernal Pathway is one of the best albums in 2019.
