If we talk about legendary black metal bands and musicians from Norway, I can say there are many, but in my mind there is one special and unique band. I am writing a story about friendship, dedication and terrible lost, I am writing about Morten Shax and Trondr Nefas (Urgehal, Beastcraft), I am writing about Endezzma.
It was in the late 90's when Morten Shax released a couple of classic demos with his first music project Dim Nagel. He made it together with band members from legendary Kvist. But soon Morten Shax closed the casket and putted Dim Nagel on hold for some years while he was busy running his label Flesh for Beast.
His label was back then releasing Urgehal albums as well as the debut of the band Vulture Lord. After some years in the record label business M.Shax felt it was time to work more directly with music again in order to express himself again as an artist.
Then in 2006 Morten decided to awake his old project Dim Nagel from the slumber and changed its name to Endezzma. But this was actually the new beginning and M. Shax asked his close friend, Urgehal frontman Trondr Nefas to join him as a creative force and Endezzma were born. He also asked Ragnarok drummer Jontho to join the band, Lars.F. Frøislie from the prog band Wobbler on piano/electric organ and Diabolous. Hoest (Taake) was the first who was asked to play bass in Endezzma and he accepted, but when the band’s future was settled with a strong plan for playing live and considering Hoest’s whereabouts back then, it was decided that Endekrist would do the bass job and respective guitar as a start. This was the very first line up of Endezzma.
The band signed a two release contract with the Polish label Agonia Records.
In 2007 Endezzma recorded their first debut mini album Alone which from the very start gathered fantastic response and positive tensions from fans and media. As a release promotion of Alone, Endezzma made several shows and participated in some festivals around Europe in 2007 and 2008.

During the aftermath of the Alone release, the band made a lineup change on the battery and Desecrator from Krypt and ex-Tsjuder changed place with Jontho behind the drums.
In 2010, the band is entering the studio again, but this time to record their first full length album Erotik Nekrosis. The lineup changed again and Urgehal and Shining drummer Uruz came in to handle the drums together with Sregroth from Urgehal on bass. The recording of the Erotik Nekrosis album took a lot of time to be done with, after a few studio mistakes and some other misfortunate happenings.
Before the album saw the light of the day, or the mist of darkness, Trondr Nefas died suddenly and unexpected. His sudden death was a huge blow for Endezzma and Morten Shax, since Trondr and Shax made it all happen, they made it together. Terrible lost for all his bands and musical projects. The scene lost one of its very important contributors.
The history of Endezzma made a great turn when Malphas came aboard as Trondr Nefas exclusive replacement. Huge footsteps to follow, but if one man could be capable to replace him, it was Malphas.
After tragic death of Trondr Nefas the album was released. He had even better response and critics from fans and media than Alone

The band again made a line up twist by replacing Diabolous with the poisonous Nihil on guitar. So they set out on a successful European tour and a tour through the great Balkans, playing in countries where not many bands paid attention to tour very often.
In May 2016 Morten Shax and Endezzma , together with the band members of Beastcraft and Urgehal got together for a concert in memory of Trondr Nefas, Death Is Complete marked, hailed and paid tribute to the passed musical genius. With friends and guest musicians joining the stage performing vocals on Urgehal songs, Nattefrost, Nag, Hoest, Mannevond, Shax, Sorath and Niklas Kvarforth. A truly unique and special night with a full arena in Oslo city was one more proof of how much Trondr Nefas and his music meant to his friends and to fans in Norway and all over the world.

Then the work on the next album started.
Endezzma made a lineup change again, but this time hopefully into something that this day is the mark of Endezzma’s very core and brotherhood. Skriu the magician behind the drums was brought into battle out the bands war drums and ASKE was summoned to firmly handle the bass.
Endezzma left Agonia Records for the better of a new label and signed up a new contract with Pulverised Records.
The band recorded The Arcane Abyss album in the Gravlund studio in Hadeland, Norway during 2016, with Fredrik Johannessen as producer. The album was mixed by Lars Frøyslie and mastered in Necromorbus Studio (Watain, Repugnant, Destroyer 666) by Tore Stjerna.
The album is set for release on 31st March 2017.
The single named Morbus Divina is taken from the new album. The 7” vinyl is available on red and yellow vinyl plates with an exclusive B-side, the track “Black Tempest” that is nothing less than Trondr Nefas very last composition before he died. The single will be out on 24th February.
I personally cannot wait to hear Endezzma's new album and to write some more about it!
A band with such a spirit and energy is hard to find, because even if they had struggles and personal tragedy, they stayed strong, determined and wilder than ever. With their music, you can expect only the best and it is getting even better with years.
So stay tuned because we will write an exclusive review, as soon as new album is out!
