Tristessa, vocalist, guitarist, bassist and keyboard player of Greek all-female black metal band Astarte, passed away on August 10, 2014. Tristessa's real name was Maria Kolokouri; she was a founding member in 1995 of the first version of the band that was called Lloth; the name of the band was subsequently changed to Astarte, after the Semitic goddess of sexuality. Maria was member of several bands, including Vorphalack.
Maria suffered from leukemia; she had however beaten the disease but died of the complications from it. She was married to Nick Maiis and they had a son called Antonios. On August 10, Metal Archives reported that Astarte had split up.
