Vikernes and his wife, Marie Cachet, were arrested last year because they were suspected of planning an act of terrorism on a large scale. After releasing them, French justice however accused them of posting anti-Semitic and xenophobic material on the internet, illegal actions in France where the couple currently resides. At the beginning of the trial, last month, Vikernes attempted to shift the blame to impostors who pretend to be him, stating that there are 350 Facebook accounts that claim to be Vikernes. The court did not accept this line of defense.
The Local says that “Vikernes, 41, was not present in court when the verdict was pronounced, nor his lawyer was”.
